Your data calculation CANNOT be correct - you say I go through 20 gb of data in about three weeks and put my account into data restriction. Meanwhile, I'm at work during the day. I don't have my DirecTV connected to the Internet. I don't stream music nor movies. I don't play games. But I am on my phone 24/7 and don't use the wi-fi feature and have three people on my phones and two tablets and we go through 3 - 4 gb's of data. Something is WRONG!!

Also, when you call or email all that happens is they tell you is "Would you like me to go over your data usage". It is almost impossible for us to prove we didn't use the data.
Look in the refridgerator, the milk is empty, now prove you were not the one who drank it.
Technology has evolved enough in the nine and one half yrs since I paid to have wild blue installed. They are going to lose customers who decide a reliable, prepaid hotspot is worth not having the problems that come with exede. This is only my opinion and it means nothing.

If you have Windows 10 with all those live tiles in startup and that cortana, then that is one reason. Anything that can send information back to the main server will eat the data. I had to go through my whole system and set it up to allow me to have total control over the data usage.

Now I believe I can PROVE the data calculation is not correct.

Since my bill period ended about 6 days ago I did not even turn on my computer yet you show that I have used 22% of my 20gb of allowable data!! 4.5gb!!

Give me a break!!

I had issues with the data usage in the beginning. I went to Network and Sharing Center, Change adapter settings, and click your Network Controler to enable and disable the data usage. This helped me as far as being able to control my data when I am not using it.

I'm in the same boat. Had Excede installed in the fall of 2015. During the fall of 2016 I started noticing very slow speeds at times. I called and learned about the data allowance - 20 GB and at 3 weeks into the month was told I had used almost 30 GB! There is not way. As stated in the thread opening, I don't stream music, movies, play games, nobody is home during the day. On 2 smart phones, we don't even use 2 GB a month.

Something is not adding up with Exede.

Hello Brian, I can certainly understand your frustration with unknown data consumptions. A few data consumption's that people are typically unaware of are: Storage, Media, Updates, Apps, or Communications. The number of wireless devices on your home network can also play a big role with data usage.

If you would like, I’d be more than happy to review your account and consumption categories according to your daily traffic, once we figure out where your data is being consumed; we can find ways to help you enjoy the activities you love.  Please send us your account and contact info to exedelistens@viasat.com.

It's fairly easy to verify whether there's an actual data usage discrepancy with that reported by Exede.

First, check your router to see if it has built-in traffic monitoring facilities. Most consumer level router do and often provide a cumulative data usage count of data used by all devices accessing the router (they'll also show which devices are accessing the router).

Lacking that there are any number of freely available traffic monitor applications that can be installed on your devices/operating systems to determine data usage - some are actually built-in to the device operating system. Unlike monitoring facilities through your router these need to be installed on all devices and usage must be manually summed across them.

If unfamiliar with how to go about doing this, identify your router's brand and model as well as the devices/operating systems you use and someone here may be able to offer targeted advice for your particular circumstances since each environment is different.

FWIW, by their very nature smartphones connected to a cellular connection will utilize a minimum amount of data by default (since it's well recognized by the manufacturers and web developers that cellular data plans are stingy and costly - not so much recognized by them that satellite internet has the same constraints).

Once you've determined whether an actual discrepancy exists or not, the courses of action become much clearer.
