Data allowance disappeared...how?

I get the limitations of data with Excede and after going over limit all to often I purchased an Asus router  that logs all bandwidth by device. All our devices data usage goes through that router except one phone.
After losing 5 gigs to a windows update on a machine not set to metered connection and another 500mb to a Chromecast i forgot to unplugon the same day, I thought I would be ok. I was down to 25 gigs remaining on our 50 gig plan and had 15 days left. HA, Not so! The next day 20 gigs were gone and there is no record of where they went in the Asus logs.

The question here is whether the Asus did not count data usage or whether Exede counted data not used.

Not happy with the choked bandwidth living in an area without unlimited plans.

Do you possibly have a satellite TV receiver, like a DirecTV Genie, connected to your ViaSat service?  Or perhaps a gaming console?  20GB in one day is a hefty download and there aren't a lot of things that will use that much data in that amount of time.

Good thought but no, we do not  have those. No TV here other than video downloaded during free zone time. The Chromecast uses up 50 to 500mb a day if not unplugged...
Yeah, 20GB is huge in one day. Have not seen that before.
stumped...

Any smart devices that might be on the edge of a WiFi connection and are having trouble staying connected?  Sometimes, if they're having a connection issue, the "heartbeat message" alone can start chewing through data.  Sorry, just trying to think of anything it could be.  I don't have ViaSat so I'm not really versed on how to troubleshoot with their equipment.

I can see "heartbeat" type data usage in the log from a few devices such as Google home , Google mini, and a media server but that is only a couple hundred MB over the time of the 20gb loss.
Thanks

Do you have the Viasat WiFi modem?  If so, have you disabled the WiFi in that modem/router?

Didn't notice the model of the ASUS Router.  If it's an RT-AC68U or higher the Traffic Analyzer should be all-inclusive.  Mine has the Asuswrt-Merlin upgrade and has had it since the day I got it so I don't remember what the stock router looks like anymore.  If you don't have this screen then upgrade to Merlin and it will be a more robust router.
Asuswrt-Merlin is downloadable from HERE.
