Hey ViaSat, I think you're a bit over congested. Do something about these speeds!

I think congestion is a lie to get us to buy more data. How come at the beginning of the cycle when everyone is at zero, there is no congestion? Yet same amount of people using it. It is only congested after you reach your data cap. Very odd. I gave up trying to get help, these people have degrees in talking in circles. It is my only option so I just have to grin and bear it. Read the reviews here and see how many people share our dilemma. Some people say it is good but they probably like AOL or are employees, or the just check email and shop on line. I was promised when I got this I would never go below 5 megs down. When I called and complained about .17 to .34 all they said was we are sorry our salesman said that??? Oh well live and learn. sorry and good luck to you.

Was told the same my speeds would not drop much. I pay for the biggest package and my speed is o.o8 when so called congestion occurs. Not what Inwas promised.

I can't even use half of my data anymore because it's too slow and like all night it's been streaming Netflix at 240p. Very frustrating.

I've only started to have problems when they replaced my modem. My last modem just died and now I have been nothing but issues. Just a few days ago, they said there was a problem on the backside and the NOC reset it and my speeds came back. Tonight I called, she did something, was getting about 26-29 Mbps down and all of the sudden, now I am back down to below dial-up. I have had the service for about 5 years now and have really had no issues till now. I have only used 50 GB so far, so I am nowhere near the threshold. I guess my luck ran out with good service, time for me to experience what a lot of people go through.

You are being throttled.  Nobody will admit it though.  Nothing much more to say.  Ask for a credit or something.  Same ol' stuff that has been going on forever.

5:22 AM is pretty busy on my beam - it gets hit pretty hard by those having free zones during that time frame (Liberty 0300 - 0600) and early risers before catching  the trains to DC.

Not excusing it just stating why speeds are slower for me during that time period and how it's possible and real. The choke point is the satellite's fixed capacity.

All depends on the beam and time of day. Today, I am pulling 8.9Mbps at 7:30am.

Veteran SatUser is right a lot of your speeds will depend on the time of day. Daytime you're probably at an acceptable speed.

A few things we will want to look at:

Are you past your priority data or have you surpassed an inflection point?

If not is ViaSat-2 available? It might be worth the upgrade if so.

We can look into it for you if you email us at viasatlistens@viasat.com

... Jim16, you know I am not complaining about 7.12 and 19, I am perfectly fine with that.

It is the 256k and 512k connections that happen in the evening time.  That is the crap I am talking about.  I am well used to the swings in speeds that happen, but anything under 1 meg really is BS

O.K.  Thanks for clarifying that.  Didn't see that anywhere in your posts....But I am a mind reader so I should have sensed it....

Those pictures give a textbook example of congestion (in the first one).  BAD congestion, but congestion, nonetheless.

Yes Jim16 your mind reading skills must be getting rusty...

I was try to be sympathizing to Ethan's speed issues... feeling his pain

as this is exactly what I am talking about.... My Roadrunner service in 1998 was 1meg and my ping was in the teens... I'm feel like I am traveling back in time here....obviously this is satellite and the ping time can never be improved, but the speed speaks for itself...

Here's my speed at 2:30pm on a Tuesday afternoon. It's barely faster than during "primetime" It's hard not to get angry about this. It literally is like I'm being throttled.

Then do as Brad requested and send the email to viasatlistens - you're just going to get sympathy (or in many cases none at all) from your fellow subscribers here - this isn't a direct support forum - it's customer to customer self-help here and we're just offering the explanations we receive as well as our own experiences and what makes it bearable for us.

Brad and others at that email address have the ability to determine whether it's installation related - we don't and only know what you tell us. Be sure to include your account info and contact info with that email - your credentials here aren't tied to your actual Viasat account so they don;t know who you are.

In this case assuming you're still under your priority data you should be doing better than that on a Tuesday afternoon. Even at this late hour on a Tuesday afternoon on a heavily loaded beam, I'm pulling 13.3 down on a 12 Mbps plan. In another hour it'll start going down the toilet. Other suggestions that have been made in the past are to determine if it's related to the under performing Viasat Wifi Modem's wireless capabilities (not to be confused with the Viasat Wifi Gateway or Surfbeam 2). You haven't really given us much to go on here - but I'll assume you're on Viasat-1 since you've got an Unlimited Plan with 150 GB threshold. Which unlimited plan you haven't said with respect to video streaming issues. Variables matter when seeking assistance or explanations.

I live in a depressed rural area and many people dont work here.  Im not talking my neighborhood, or my town, Im talking "Rural Appalachia" in general.  I see a sharp decline when school lets out, or in foul weather when people are stuck indoors, but for the most part our "peak usage" is pretty much 24/7.  "Time of day" is irrelevant here.  It could be 5:20 AM today, or 5:20 PM tomorrow, OR BOTH!  It literally is a crap-shoot guessing who is online when,

I don't know what the problem is, but my speeds have been terrible recently. I have the Freedom plan (150Gb per month) and it reset on the 12th. I can barely load videos (even when I turn data extender off), webpages are slow as molasses (many time-out), latency on Elder Scrolls Online is over 999ms (that is the highest it will go) and I frequently get disconnected. It's gotten so slow that I time out trying to log in. I have rebooted my modem & computers, but that hasn't fixed the problem.
It's very frustrating, and I hope they do something to fix it.

The 99.7 was a bad day for cable. In comparison to satellite speeds most people that really like using the internet would sell their soul to get usable speeds.

I can’t stream a movie tonight. Sat the family down after some late atv riding only to watch buffering and timeouts.

I’m joining a therapy group tomorrow to work on my anger.

A whole $20 deposit gets me free installation and $20 towards my first bill.  Seems good to me.

They are already installing in 3 of their districts, hopefully when they are done there, they will start here. They already have fiber installed at the electric station down the road.  The joys of having an electric co-op.
