Can't log in to my bank

The last few times I have tried to access my bank account online from my exede internet, I have not been able to log in.  The bank page loads all except for the block where the sign in is located.  If I click the text link for sign in, that page returns with an error.  I am able to sign in to the bank on my cell phone or from other computers, so it is not an error with the bank website.

LM, do you use an ad or media blocker such as UBlock on the problem computer? Are you able to log in to your bank on your Exede connection using a cell phone or tablet? If so, the problem is on that computer, a blocker or the firewall most likely.

If you cannot log it on any device on your Exede connection, your back may not be allowing high latency connections to log in. There is no way to reduce the 600+ ms latency of satellite internet so, in that case you would need to work with your bank to get them to allow it to log in.

It used to work on that computer until recently.  Something changed.

Are you using the Sparrow browser?  I have had some trouble with the connection to my bank using the Sparrow browser.  The connection sometimes times out very quickly!  Try using a different browser.

Yet another subtle benefit of the Sparrow approach - better support though diagnostics to resolve browser issues sent to those familiar with satellite internet quirks.

Me personally, I'd be looking at the frewqently encountered DNS issues that occur dependent on the core node or gateway - caching, delayed propogation?

I've never heard of Sparrow before.

It's a beta program by invite only right now, a ViaSat variant of the Chromium open source projects - tweaked for Exede and satellite internet constraints.

Chromium is the basis for Google Chrome so there is some overlap in functionality, so your problem may in fact be browser related too.

Some discussion of it over here:

https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/exedes-project-sparrow-browser-how-does-it-work

I'm just making guesses that hopefully will turn a light bulb or two on regarding your specific problem for any ViaSat employees who may be lurking in the shadows.

Hopefully the fuller Sparrow discussion continues in the original thread where David can better monitor.

Thanks for the info.

Unless some change was made recently though, it doesn't explain it for me.  Because as I said, it was working recently, and then not.

Leading me to believe it's a DNS issue at your assigned gateway and/or core node on Exede not applicable to all users. Disable any browser extensions to rule those out as the possible culprit - assuming you're still experiencing it. Barring that email as noted by Diana below.

Using Chrome.  And as I said, it was working before.  Same computer, same browser.

Hmm, interesting.  Have you tried running incognito mode?  That runs without addons or adblocking programs, or anything else that may interfere.  Give that a shot.

It does not work in Incognito mode.
I also installed Firefox, fresh install, it was not already on that machine.  So no add ons or ad blockers.  And it does not work with that either.

Hi LM,  we did have issues this morning but I've been told it is resolved.  If you are still having an issue, please send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your account information. We'll be happy to assist.

It is still not working.  I tried with Google Chrome and Microsoft Internet Explorer.  I have sent an e-mail.   It does work on my wireless device, but not my desktop.  I need to be able to log in with the desktop.

I had that issue with my bank earlier this year. Just could not get my secured bank website to work on Exede but it would work on other ISP's.

I fixed the problem though. I switched banks.

LM so, it works on your wireless device, connected to your Exede service? the it is not an Exede problem, it's the desktop. be that firewall or other issues, it is isolated to that machine.

It does work on my cell phone.  And on my laptop!    I hadn't made any changes to the computer, unless it was some Windows update.  Off to Google that because I have no idea how to troubleshoot that.   Thanks for your help, this is way faster than waiting for response to email  :)

First, disable any firewalls and ad or media blockers. See if that works. If not clear your browser and clean your register. CCleaner or Eusing's cleaner are both free to use and, safely clear browsers and, clean registries.

Now, if it's working, enable one firewall or blocker at a time, see where the problem is and, adjust settings or, replace the offending software as required. If it works now with all of them running, it was either something stored in temporary internet files (cookies and such) or, a registry error and, you may need to clean those up periodically, which is a good idea anyway.

When it says work on your cell and laptop, is that when they are connected to another network or Exede? It is not the computer if all three devices fail when connected to Exede.

It worked on other devices connected to Exede.  But I figured it out, it was Bitdefender program.  Either Bitdefender changed something on their end which began blocking it, or my bank changed something on their end which Bitdefender didn't like.

Bitdefender probably updated and, that caused the problem. You may wish to contact Bitdefender or see if there are others with similar problems on their site.
