Can someone send me their old modem?

I heard that Viasat doesn't require subscribers to return their old modems when switching to the unlimited plans. Instead of throwing away those old modems, would anyone be interested in sending me one?

I would love the chance to try to talk Viasat into letting me out of the modem lease fee. The odds of them letting me out of the fee is unlikely, but it's worth a try.

I will gladly send you the soda of your choice and a generous portion of peanuts in exchange for your old modem.

@Poor White Trash. I have an old Surfbeam2 modem, it has no lease on it, I quit paying for the lease in April 2012. However, I cannot send you my old modem to you for just a soda and some peanuts since the modem is still in use providing me the best satellite internet in my area.

How did you stop paying the lease? I've had mine since 2012 also, but they are still charging me a lease.

@James Paramore, I'm in the same boat. I've had my modem since 2012 as well.
I wish I could find the gentleman with the custom made orange leather shoes who was purchasing a phone at BestBuy and told me about Exede so I could thank him for saving me from Hughesnet.

Which one is the old modem you are talking about. Mine is square with a blue ring, must be the newer ones out there. I believe I got mine in 2015 March maybe! I did have the older one but only have that because our house exploded in September of 2015 and I doubt it if you want that old one! I heard somewhere if you buy their newer ones at 299. your won't have to pay monthly for it, is that true???

You need to ditch that freedom plan so you can pay more for unlimited.

No chance of that happening. I love my 1080P video watching. As my kids would say, "480P video is so '90s"

@  Poor White Trash, Champion,

To have a spare Surfbeam-2 would be fun to play with but don't expect it to work, well, I wouldn't expect it work.  There is the problem of each one has a serial number and and MAC address that might be registered at Viasat.  Just thinking...

James, you are required to pay your lease. You are a special subscriber.

Hmm.. I have Freedom plan and only get 480p videos-- but I think it's because of the account settings. Videos take forever to stream. There's a lot of buffering. Does the "Unlimited" stop people from streaming 1080p or HD videos? Does it throttle downloads for video games?
I was thinking of switching to the "unlimited" just so I wouldn't have to worry about going over when downloading some new game expansions.

I had to return my Surfbeam-2 when I upgraded to unlimited.

Or is my chain being yanked here? :-P :-D

Unfortunately there's not a lease waiver available, even the pre-paid covers a certain amount of time. We did have a one-time lifetime lease fee for like $300ish that covered the life of the account but I do not know off-hand if that's still offered or not. It *might* be available if you have the non-WiFi modem but I don't have an account handy that I'm able to check with.

I sadly do not have a old modem to send you in exchange for off-brand Dr. Pepper with non-imaginative names

At one time there was a one time purchase purchase option, but that ended years ago.

Now, there is no way to avoid the lease option.

I signed up for Exede in April 2012. At that time I was offered the lifetime lease option for $299.00. It has been a great investment thus far.

Sure wish I would have taken that deal myself, I think I remember hearing about that once long time ago.

I wish that the one time fee had been available when I signed up but it was not offered. There was a thing where if I paid a larger chunk at the beginning it didn't charge the monthly fee for the first year or two and after that the monthly lease fee kicked in.

I think it was only offered for about the first 6 months of Exede's inception. Then that offer went away.
