My modem/Router sometimes goes offline while i am work, not allowing me to see alarm/camera status.  Rather than wait until i return home, i would like an option to reset the modem via the internet using the IP address... Is that even possible?

Currently there's no ability to command a reset without you installing some device to disconnect power from the modem and router, then reapply power to them.  The easiest and less expensive way to do this is to buy a timer then connect the modem and router to the timer (use multiple power strip with two or more outlets)..Then set the timer to go off (like 3:30am) and then back on at 3:31am...this will make sure they get reset once a day.

If you want something that you can command immediately then take a look at these options and see if any will suit your needs:

You should be able to call Customer Service and have them do a restart on your modem.  And, I think but am not sure, that you can do a modem reset using the texting app.

Barry, you can sign up for the texting app by sending the message JOIN to 20715. Once signed in for the text system, simply text RBT to 20715 and your modem will be rebooted.

If you have a separate modem and router then the texting app will not reboot the router, which is sometimes the problem...if you have the new Exede modem with built-in router then the reset app will do the trick..

If your modem/router goes offline from the internet, then it (understandably) doesn't seem likely that a command could be sent using the internet to tell it to reboot.  And any of those smart home outlet devices are all based on getting a signal using the internet, so that won't help.

I do not know if there are any cellular controlled smart outlets, but if not, your only option if the modem is offline, is to reboot/restart it physically.

Edit: the timers mentioned above would help, but it would only reboot at the specified time, so if your modem goes offline after the reboot, you still have the issue.

It is possible that the problem is being caused by the router section of the modem and it would still be possible to reset the modem as described above.

Actually one of those remote devices can be operated via a phone call to turn on/off power to the device.

Ever heard of "IP Watchdog?"  It will need to be set up to trigger a relay capable of turning your modem off and on.  If you are handy with a soldering iron and want a small project, this thing looks like it will do the trick.

Or you can Google-   ip watchdog device
and see what else is out there.
