You certainly can purchase a Surfbeam 2 modem on eBay, but unless you are an authorized installer, I'm not sure what you can do with it.  The modem has to be initialized with a Modem Key and provisioned.  The modem serial number is reported upstream to Viasat.  I'm sure there are ways to get around this, but not legally and not advisable.

JEP is correct. If you purchased one off the internet to use, there's no guarantee it would even work with our service. The previous owner may have dropped it or something during their time of use causing it to be sup-par. You really want a new one to have the best possible equipment.

Theodore, those  modems are strictly for cable internet services. They are very different than the modem used for satellite internet. you buy the ones from Walmart, they will make for a great paperweight, but nothing more until you can get cable internet.

You talk about Used? Broken? modems purchased online???

Interesting.

The modem I have was given to me "as new".  It is a refurbished modem.

VERIFIED!  All one has to do is look at the modem number to see whether it is new or refurbished.

Just now, I called technical support because I lost all connection to the internet.

The modem lights are just flicking up and down like a xmas tree.

The rep stated there was a "scheduled maintenance" going on in my area and service was terminated until such as time as that was finished.

After asking him about resolution to the questions/complaints I have made over the last few weeks......he responded this way.....

"I see your account is eligible for telephone service, would you be interested in taking an agreement with us for telephone service in home."

Really?  He completely ignored my question about resolving the problems I have been experiencing.

Is this what technical support does?  Sorry, but that does not sound like technical support to me!

I ask about resolution to a problem and get a sales pitch!!!!!!!!!!!

Add insult upon insult.

Screw this.

Are you still consulting with your corporate and engineering team?

My service has degraded to a point where my upload/download speeds are averaging 790ms latency, 1.8mbps download and 1.55 upload.

Since day one I have tried to get you people to honor our contract and you have till this day ignored the problem nor have you tried to correct it.
