Yes you can Cynthia. When you look at the "change your plan" page you'll see the WI-FI plans at the top of the page but if you scroll down the page and you'll see the plans that don't have the wi-fi router.
We have had MANY customers get confused on this issue.

Cynthia, Andy is correct. The Wifi modem is only required if you choose a Boost 25 plan. The 12 Mbps plans do not need the wifi modem.

Waiting for an Exede Social Media Specialist to jump in on this one, I have a 12 Mbps plan and was given the Wifi modem at install, would love to be rid of it.

Hi Cynthia,  As the forum members answered, yes you do not have to change your modem unless that is the only plan you can get. Please check for the plans available to you.   If you choose the WiFi modem, we are not able to transition you back to the regular modem.

Here is a great article that will help you change your plan.

I really don't care for your modem with wifi. i upgraded to Liberty 30-Boost 25-wifi about 10 months ago. This modem does not have nearly the broadcast capabilities as my old exede modem. I have a verizon network extender that I have had for a few years. With the old modem I could easily accept and make cell phone calls, But with this new so many calls are dropped or not even connected. Is there a way that I can go back to the old modem.

Hi Dan,  No at this time, once you receive to WiFi modem, we are not able to transition you back to the regular modem.  You can connect an extender to boost your WiFi range. Here is some additional information as well.
