Buying additional bandwidth

Last month we ran out of data about 5 days before the end of our monthly allocation.  I purchased additional gig's and noticed that we burnt through the additional bandwidth really quickly.  I use the RestrictionTracker utility that monitors and logs ViaSat network usage so I can tell our average daily usage.   We did nothing exceptional during the last few days, but we burnt through the purchased units abnormally quicker than our usual daily usage.   Please advise, thanks.
