I must have the most congested beam right now 0.03 Down and 0.81. http://www.speedtest.net/result/6984581795 Ever since Friday my connection has went to garbage. And i am seeing i'm not the only one. SO what the heck is going on. Heck during the holidays it wasn't even close to this bad. Overselling your capacity to where it is this bad is not good business practice at all. Heck the local carrier i have been trying to get for the past year now will not even sell to more customers right now do to being full so that they can provide good service to who they have. That's an example of caring for your costumers. I understand viasat 2 is coming and all this crap. But i want good service now, not 2 weeks to a month from now. And even then there is no guarantee this is going to get better due to how i'm seeing a trend on overselling your capacity and then leasing out large chunks of it to business contracts and government facilities. For 48 hours now I've been patient and quiet but damn seriously 48 hours and no improvement at all. You cant do squat at these speeds. I need to be able to do my Online school work but cant due to how slow the internet is right now. I understand unlimited doesn't guarantee high speeds but unlimited data at any speed. But think on this for a second at least give me a damn speed that allows me to do something. Atleast when i was with Verizon Wireless if you went over or when it was congested the crap was still useable. Am i happy right now, no. But im going to have to unfortinatly deal with it because i signed a 2 year contract.

I haven't known that area to be congested compared to some beams that are congested a lot.

It's obviously congested. Even if i went over my data allowance as an unlimited silver i should still at some point see speed improvement unless the beam is so congested that the speed just does not improve. I think the mechanism that does the network shaping is not working correctly or Just very badly implemented QoS. Or perhaps my account is bugged and it doesnt think im a silver member.

I'm in Baton Rouge and my service with Viasat has been slower than normal this week.

You have to take into consideration that the whole state was shut down Wednesday and Thursday due to the freeze and road closures.  If people can't go to work, they will sit at home and play on the internet.  That uses bandwidth and slows things down.  It's no different than the holiday slowdown.

Friday wasn't as bad since the roads opened and most of the state opened back up.  There were a few schools and government offices that did stay closed though, so I can imagine Friday was affected as well.  I went to work Friday, so I can't personally say how it was during the day.  I'm just guessing.

Normally my Playon server records video during the day but as soon as I realized the state was about to shut down, I paused my server so it wouldn't do anymore downloads.  Other than a few hours in the early morning, it won't be recording anymore video until Monday when things are back to normal.

I forgot to ask but did you get any ice or snow on your dish?  That can really affect things as well.  My service quit working completely when we had that snow two weeks ago.  I had to wait for it to melt before Viasat would work.

I could have went outside and hosed the dish down, but I chose to stay inside and keep warm instead.

That's probably likely. There was a spike in traffic last week due to the ice and snow storm that hit  with folks staying home.

If service stops because of snow on the dish, I hit it will a long extension pole and knock the snow off :).

Ice can be more problematic if the dish is not accessible, but if it is i have found a blow torch comes in handy :)

I live in Michigan and just checked my download speed and it was 35.2 MBS. I have never seen it this fast. I have had no options to change plan for weeks now. Maybe with the restrictions on plans, the service will be more stable. By the way, if you have snow on the dish or ice and it is at ground level, pour hot water on it and you will be back in service.
