Why wasn't my account upgraded automatically?

Battling teenagers and a budget, we selected the Liberty 18 plan for 99.99 plus the customary fees that go along with it, and via bank draft every month.  So as we keep burning through data, I decided to log into our account, and was pissed off severely to learn that there is a Liberty 50 plan for 100.00.  How long has this been available, and why the hell wasn't I upgraded automatically as we were paying the same price for the service?  I mean, 18gb for 99.99, and 50gb for 100.00?  This is total b*******, and I feel my account should be reevaluated, and compensation be made for being overcharged.  Am I wrong for thinking this???

Yes. We'll take cellphone companies as an example.  Newer and better plans come along but those companies never notify customers that they could save money if they switched plans.  Those companies actually lock customers into a rotten plan that they can't change until their contract is up. Even after their contract is up they still don't inform customers of a better deal they could get.  It's up to the customer to be a wise shopper and check available plans- often if they are out of contract. Sometimes they will allow a contract to be terminated if the customer is upgrading and signing a new contract to replace the old one.

Exede lets you change plans mid-contract and does not charge you for making the switch from one plan to another, ever.

Sorry Kris, but it is up  to the individual to be aware of the new plans that are available. First of all, id you had been monitoring this forum, you would have seen the posts by Exede Alex telling subscribers that new plans are being made available on some of the beams. Also, it is  easy to check what is available to you by checking in on the Exede Dashboard at myexede.net.

These new plans have been available for over 3 months now.

Exede will never change your plan, that is up to you. And, as Craig says in his post above, this is how most ISP and cell phone providers operate. At least Exede lets you change plans whenever you wish with out making you start a new contract or extend your contract completion date.

Hello Kris, I'm sorry you were not aware of all of our plans .  ViaSat/Exede will never change a plan without the customers' permission. They are available on our website at, www.exede.com and the customer portal. If you do not have your account set up, here is how to do. (http://help.exede.net/articles/General/Get-to-know-the-MyExede-customer-portal).  Please visit to see if the Liberty 50 Plan is available in your area.

As Steve mentioned, you can change your plan without renewing your contract.  Please call 855.463.9333 or send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com if you need any additional information.
