I have been looking at and reading the TOS for the freedom plan & not liking what I've read. He is just one of the questions that I am not sure about:::

Q: Will ViaSat automatically slow or restrict my service if I exceed 150 GBs of usage during my monthly billing period?
A: No. However, we may contact you and offer you an option to reduce your usage or transition to another service plan. If you do neither, we may terminate yourservice.

How can you call that a FREEDOM Plan when you say things like that in your TOS?

Thorne, it's to prevent abuse, such as peer-to-peer sharing and the like.

Gaming is at most impossible on satellite connections, I have hughesnet, I tried call of duty. It was so laggy it was not playable online. Dsl or fiber op is better to use. Faster download and upload does not matter, it is ping or other words called latency of the connection

Well for the freedom everything plan on zip code 10001 the price is $99.99 a month. So i pay $67-72 bucks a month for 10 gigs so now comes the big question how are you"exede" going to compensate customers that have been with exede from the very beginning? It seems to myself their needs to be price fairness here if you "exede" are offering   New York NY $99.99 for 150 gig cap then you need to lower you prices to your loyal base.

thorne.olinger, have you heard about our Great Gig Giveaway? It is our promotional offer to existing customers at this time. It offers an additional 30GB to be used over the next 5 months. If you can send me and email to exedelistens@viasat.com, I would be more than happy to check your eligibility and get some GB added for you.

Just trying to point out a negative post that was based on bad information.  Your info looks good, but doesn't address the comparison under discussion, the Freedom Plan.

To stay focused on the real issue here ... As a long time customer, I would be at least somewhat happier if I could get the 50 gig offered to new users.  Instead, they are doing everything that they can to add additional customer to a system that is already so overloaded that they can't provide a decent plan for a fair price to existing customers.  Freedom plan ... hell, I'd like a somewhat FAIR plan!

I had the same thought as you at first. However, on second thought:
They are trying to add customers to the beams that are NOT overloaded, at a reduced price/gig to entice the newbies. This will give ViaSat more money, funding MORE satellites WITHOUT raising the rates of existing customers (who are on other, overcrowded beams). That's fine with me. Since it seems the expansion of broadband/DSL has slowed or stopped, we NEED more satellites, and I'm unwilling to pay even more to get them up sooner. Let the Freedom subscribers pay into that effort.

Being a champion on here is not anything to write home about. If you have a lot of posts, you are a champion, and these people are proud of it, which doesn't mean anything to anybody else but them.

Why is Freedom only for new customers?.

Does anyone know a lawyer?  This can't be legal.  Unlimited for 'new' customers only?  Not good business practice. http://www.exede.com/internet-packages-pricing/service-availability?zip=32117  New customers are eligible for more than existing customers has to be discrimination or something.  I demand the unlimited data for $99.00 monthly.

one thing I know is people are never happy . I have been with Hughes net for the last three years on space way 3 system 300 meg /day had to pay extra for static ip so my wife could work from home. cost me 94.99/ month .her vpn  dial up speed. with the exede 10gig plan her vpn works great and is much faster  and about 40.00 cheaper/month. so it works great for me.

you can choose to go with hughes nets gen4 if you want but you will be behind a double nat. and you will need a static ip to do anything out side of web and software down loads. your on the best one out there now you better keep it.

Mitchell, i saw a post about a problem with belkin routers just a moment ago.. do a search.. on the hughesnet side... what does "behind a double nat" mean? And what do you need a static ip to do? Im not the brightest bulb when it comes to computers, my wife is the brains of the operation, but im lost.

Freedom Package-Most want it, why limit it to a few?.

I feel disappointed that the Freedom package is for new customers only, and not being given a fair shot at the general public and your loyal customers. I have been looking for a high data cap package in the rural area I am living at. Seeing this gave me hope, however, after seeing all the red tape Viasat is putting this through, I am thoroughly disappointed. I have been a long time customer, and feel cheapened by this move.

Give us a chance to get it started, as well as offer it to the new subs instead of cutting off your loyal sub base.

A: The new Freedom plan provides at least 150 GB of data every month. That’s a huge amount of data. In fact, it’s so much that we think most customers won’t ever come close to using it all up every month.

Jan. 27, 2015 I imagine will put a nice dent in that. http://store.steampowered.com/app/271590/

That is about 40  two hour movies. I guess that means you spend most of your time watching movies. Not much time left in a month to work, or socialize with others. Not my idea of life, but for others, enjoy it. Hopefully most of us will see higher data allowances soon.

Sounds about right for Netflix:

https://help.netflix.com/en/node/87

Heavy Netflix use outside of the late night free zone will quickly consume your monthly data allotment if on a limited plan.

But then, my video consumption consists of getting in the truck and driving down to the nearest RedBox.

Kimberly I'd like to know why my post was removed that clearly and explicitly explained how much bandwidth Netflix requires? That information came straight from Netflix and in my opinion was useful.

wayne, with the Freedom plan you should have no problem connecting to Xbox Live. However, with most satellite services, latency can be a bit of a headache sometimes.

Too bad, I was looking at internet providers recently, you folks popped up on my radar again after being off satellite for 10+ years, but I'm not going back to those low, under 50gb caps.

Mike ... You're a lucky man!  If I had ANY other option at all, I would not be a customer of this service.  25GB monthly is a ridiculous cap.  I work from home and have to do some video conferences, desktop sharing, etc.  I burn through this very low usage every month ... then I see new customers be offered a "special deal" of 50GB per month.  They don't create reasonable plans because their systems are grossly out of date and they don't care about the current customer base because we are a captive audience!  We don't have options!

Just a note to those, like me, who are reading and not liking what you see; I only know enough to create more questions so I called. I wanted to see if I could do better 2 years into start up of my plan for the same money, because hey, we aren't all cutting back expenses? Turned off Directv and started Netfix, BIG data use in 3 days! Trina at Exceede customer service related HER personal experience and ran a comparison on my account, she also told me how to cut my "play back setting" on Netfix. That, along with the 5G add on bonous will help tremendously and give me time to reevaluate if I really need a higher priced plan. For those who are new, the offers are great. If you are not a new customer, call customer service and let them evaluate where you use data and see if another plan woorks. If nothing else, use this 5G x 6 month bonous add, it there! If you don't get a great CS rep like TRINA, call back! I'm a hard to please consumer; rarely do I get off the phone happy with what i've learned, but today I did! REALLY..!

What I am miffed about is that you gave this Freedom Plan to NEW customers, not as an upgrade option to those of us that have been loyal customers for years. What gives? Why am I being punished for being a loyal customer? I understand it's in limited markets now but, it should have gone to loyal customers first, not new customers. We know hoe satellite works, we know what to realistically expect and, how to monitor usage. We should be the ones testing the new stuff, not new, often clueless about satellite ISP customers.

Bev - Is the Freedom Plan currently being offered in your zip code?  If not, it doesn't matter whether you are new or old customer.  Only being offered in under utilized beams.

I've been reading post after post tonight and we always come back to the same thing in my mind.  Other than a VERY narrow service area where this mysterious Freedom Plan is available, there are NO PLANS that offer a reasonable amount of data for a reasonable price.  Scratch that ... there aren't even plans that offer a reasonable data cap at an UNREASONABLE cap.  Then you hear things like ... just call in and we'll give you 5GB more for a while.  To Bev's point, why don't they just give me a new plan ... 30GB for the same price as the 25GB?  What, I have to call and gripe before I get something?  It's crappy customer care for existing customers to go along with the crappy data cap and crappy service/speeds.  If there was ANY option where I live, I wouldn't use it.  If there is ever another option in my area I will be GONE.  At this point we should all be looking to go elsewhere just on a matter or principle.  Here's hoping that we can all find another option!

JEP, until just recently you couldn't get the plans unless you were a new customer. They recently in October started letting existing upgrade.

Inthesky - Yes, and it was being offered to existing customers when Bev wrote her comment.  The format of this forum is somewhat convoluted and difficult to follow the thread sometimes.
Not happy with my data cap... this is my second month having excede Internet. Not happy at all...
How do you go through 30 gigs In 5 days watching 1 netflix movie each night and only using Internet for email, shopping and FB.. that's 25 days of restricted daily internet.
This month we watched everything we did online to make sure we did not have this issue. Which lasted 13 days of this monthly period..
Not Happy with the price! Per Gig..... will call tomorrow to resolve if not I will have no choice but to cancel my contract for inadequate service..

What resolution movies did you watch? Unless you're on the Freedom Plan you really can't watch a movie a night, anyway.  Have you turned off the autoplay in Facebook (major data hog). Have you made sure nothing is using data on your computer(s) in the background? Win8 has a bunch of stuff that has to be turned off or uninstalled and default's to a cloud user that has to be changed to a local user. Apple is even worse if you don't turn off all the cloud stuff. Ditto on your phones if there set to use wifi if available, all the cloud stuff has to be turned off. Same with ipads and tablets. I need a macro for this info.

This following is not meant to be snarky, just telling you the truth. If you have access to pretty much any other internet you should have got it and not Sat internet (there is some DSLs and probably a few other things that can be worse). If you are limited to Satellite internet, your only choices are Exede and Hughes and Exede seems to be the better of the two. Satellite internet is what it is. Satellites are expensive to put up, only have so much data capacity, since they are about 22,500 miles up capacity can't be added to them and the long ping times are due to the speed of light and nothing can be done about it.. To me, Exede works great but I went in knowing the limitations and work within them.
