I had an identity theft a few years ago. I DO NOT ALLOW ANYKIND OF OUTSIDE WITHDRAWELS from my bank accounts. so does that mean we cannot purchase these services?

It does require a 24 month commitment and debit or credit card auto pay. I do understand where you are coming from as I have had my credit card compromised by a waiter once. Exede is working on some other options for payment. Here is my suggestion: purchase a re-loadable VISA gift card from any supermarket or pharmacy. You will have to go into the store to reload it and there are some fees associated with some cards, but it will only allow what is put on it to be taken. You just will have to make sure a minimum of $60 is loaded for the pre-credit check making sure the card is valid, and then the total of whatever plan you choose. Example: 10Gig plan is 49.99 for the service, 9.99 for equipment lease, and .50 or .60 cents in taxes, for a total of less than $62 a month. However, your first bill is prorated and will be slightly higher. Depending on the plan, I would load $100 for the first month and then adjust your balance as you need to monthly.

Another option would be to take out a new credit card with a low credit limit, and use it exclusively for your internet services.  That was you will be able to pay your bill every month, and with  a credit line of $500 or even smaller, you are at a low risk.  Credit cards have much more protection from the issuing bank against fraudulent charges than debit cards have.

Hi Will,

David and Steve are correct. We do accept Visa, MasterCard, and Amex debit or credit cards. I agree with David and would recommend using a re-loadable debit card to set up on your account. We also accept bank account information. You could also use a checking or savings account where you control how much is deposited. Keep in mind that after the initial set up, we do not store your financial information. Agents only have access to the type of account (card or bank account) , last four digits of the account or card number, and the expiration date. We will not be able to have access to  your entire credit/debit card number or bank account numbers. You can also update your payment method on file online, through the IVR system, or  through a Customer Care agent. If you have any other questions regarding the billing system, please send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com. Thanks.

If you don't want the hassle of reloading a card, or a separate account, you could also do as I have done and get a second debit card for an account you already have that offers the ability to check the account either online or via phone. Use that card ONLY for the automatic debits and, check the account daily.

If the card were to be compromised, you could quickly cancel that card, and, a decent bank would help you recover any lost funds but, by checking it daily, you will be able to call the bank and, stop any fraudulent transactions before the are finalized.

I've had my card compromised ONCE. I used it to get gas at a station I do not normally use and, because of that, I used the card I use for my Viasat and, other online transactions. The money was taken as Pending for 24 hours, but I notified the bank and, canceled the card in that time so, the fraudulent transaction was ultimately denied and, the funds returned to my account 48 hours after the card was compromised.

Then I just had to tell Viasat what happened and, that I would have a new card for them in 4-5 days as that's how long it takes me to get a replacement. It wasn't a big deal and, I can easily cancel that card and, have my other one for groceries and other local expenses.

I use several credit cards to provide activity firewalls.  One card is exclusively for automatic payments.  It never sees the light of day, otherwise.  Another one is for miscellaneous online purchases, etc.  I resorted to this after getting hit a couple of times.  At least now, if there is a problem, it is isolated to one area of financial activity.
