AOL blocking Wildblue?

Email sent to AOL addresses is being rejected. AOL says this can be due to a temporary block by the server being used. What can you do about Wildblue not being blocked by AOL?

AOL Mail addresses are not getting my mail.

As a result, you (the sender) receive a message from your domain's Mailer Daemon alerting you that the message was not delivered. This email contains the specific error code and corresponding reason your message wasn't delivered.

To un-block your mail, the administrator of your email domain (which may be you; more often it is your Internet Provider) should open an AOL Postmaster support request by visiting http://postmaster.info.aol.com/SupportRequest.php.

Yes, that’s exactly what I also found and why I’m writing here. The link provided does not work, at least for me. I had no idea how to contact the Wildblue internet provider so I came here and started digging, and then posted this. In the meantime, I learned the work around, using another email provider and I’m still waiting for some one “official” to answer this post. In the meantime, I think I’ll get serious about migrating my main contacts off of Wildblue.

If Viasat contracted with Zimbra, then the onus would be upon Viasat.

I contacted Exede/Wildblue support and this was their reply:  I have checked your email address, and there are no apparent issues on our end. I would suggest contacting AOL to see if they have flagged your email to prevent it from sending emails to their domain.

AOL stated they are blocking at the server level, not individual email names.  So, Zimbra's SMTP server ID is being blocked, which could represent thousands and thousands of Zimbra's users.

I have no idea of contractual relationship between Zimbra and Viasat, but AOL's policy of taking out thousands and thousands of users coming from same SMTP server, due to spam bots, suggest their IT department (or bean counters) are taking the easiest/cheapest means to eradicate this issue.

Imho, Denver's support team should call corporate, and let them know.  This has nothing to do with your email address.  AOL is to blame for blanket rejects from a SMTP server.

Viasat had previously contracted with Gmail, but apparently, the price was too much, for a good email service. Zimbra like Facebook sucks...Gmail is better imho, for a free service.  With a corporate account, Gmail does not sift thru messages.

Blame the spammers and/or those with nefarious intentions.  Similar things happen with Hughes email addresses, as well.  They may be blocking the domain due to suspicious activity.  It happens more often that you'd think.

The joys of the third party email provided by Viasat.

I don't blame Viasat. But it would be a lot better if they didn't give an email address out at all.

Last I knew, just about all major/minor ISPs provide email for their users.  NRTC (Coop/Rea users with Viasat service) still have email, Usenet, and a free web page to setup).

Viasat suggesting Zimbra for email services was not a good idea:  Synacor owns Zimbra, and their privacy policy states,

Cookies and Web Beacons - Technologies such as cookies, beacons, tags, scripts and other similar technologies are used by Synacor and/or our advertising partners, affiliates, analytics and service providers

And Web Beacons Track You on the Web and in Emails

I don't really care if all ISP's give out email addresses, and I didn't ask for your opinion about it.

Don’t start a controversy on this, I just wanted to see if anyone knew what happened and why. From what I gathered reading another thread the work around is use a different service to email AOL addresses. I’m living out in the middle of no where so Wildblue is about as good as it gets unless I use a web based email address. Guess I should start shifting stuff off of Wildblue.

Not a controversy. But you would be wise to transition to Gmail or Yahoo mail. You will be better off in the long run. I dumped the Viasat provided email address over six years ago, and have no regrets.

I’m sure you are right. I already have both of those for other reasons. The Yahoo is a mess now days thanks to their breech, all the junk that now shows up. My gmail address is too much like several others with a similar name so I’m reluctant to use it for more than the “throw away” mail that I get when I have to give an email address. I do have a college affiliated one that I should start using since I know someday when I move the Wildblue will disappear, or should. Despite not being affiliated with Cox now for many years, I still get junk on that one!

My phone number is hosted by Google Voice. I can change phone companies whenever I want without fear of losing my number.

It's a matter of preference. I still have my old Wildblue email that autoforwards any emails that still go to it. I just never send anything out of it It didn't take long though for a new email address to populate to my contacts.

But you are right. Once you leave Viasat, that email is gone anyhow. That's what people don't get. Do they think they are going to have the same ISP for the next several decades?

Hello Choff,  There is an issue with wildblue.net email being blocked.  This has been escalated and we are working on resolving the issue soon.

Unfortunately no, we don't have a resolution estimation.  We received an update yesterday, indicating they are approaching a solution, but nothing solid.

Still no fix? I am having the same problem sending attachments to AOL users. They bounce every time.

Using a Wildblue/Viasat provided email? The fix is to use a gmail or Yahoo mail account and quit using the Viasat provided email.

No, it's still being looked at on a case-by-case basis.  Email the bounceback message to us at viasatlistens@viasat.com, and we'll forward it to our email provider, Synacor.

Matt B, of Viasat. If I had to do case by case and contact you each time it happened I’d be doing it daily, or would have. Just now, I deleted 12, yes, 12, bounced emails that all went to AOL subscribers. Thank goodness it was from a list that wasn’t that important and I know at least one person had gotten my reply. I agree with others, get another email address to use and never depend on Wildblue for your primary. I’m in the process of getting anything and everything off my Wildblue address.

That is the best solution - abandon wildblue for your email address

Yahoo also has a problem with wildblue.net addresses too

I don't trust anything AOL does as having good intentions. Back when those AOL installation discs were all over the place uninstalling AOL to use another provider was like pulling teeth. A couple time I had to format the hard drives of friends and family to stop hidden AOL files from blocking new installations.

The worst was when my mom died. I called to cancel her service, they said I could not as I wasn't the one who ordered it. I told them I could fax or e-mail her death certificate. They said that wasn't good enough and they wanted a copy of her will that makes me executor. I think I never cussed at the top of my lungs into a phone like that in my life. I just canceled the credit card the payments were made from. AOL sent past due bills to the address threatening collections, what pieces of crap.
