then we should only pay for what we get. I wonder if there is a commission or agency like the FCC that should look into them selling service they cant  or dont deliver.

You are paying for "up to"  25mbs.  12mbs average is pretty good, and some people would say very good.  Speeds will vary depending on how many people are on your beam.  The new satellite will help with problem when it comes online very soon.

Viasat would save themselves aggravation by advertising an average speed not up to 25mb. It does state UP to not 25mb all the same it should be the average speed. Beats the hell of of dial up!! Thanks

I think that they are overloading the beam selling more than they can handle.

I have 25g data plan also and I know for a fact I have watched way less on my PC than previous months and I'm already out of data. Also in previous months when I have used up my data I can still watch videos it is just a little slower. I just ran a speed test and it's downloading at .26 Mbps!! That's one quarter of one Megabyte! I am paying $100 a month for this?!??

Are you watching "On Demand" programming on Direct TV?  If so it uses your internet to download it.  Also check your phones if you are updating applications, I ran into the same issue.

Tim Miller I agree! I never knew this little section existed until a few months ago and there were A LOT of unhappy people leaving remarks. Then for a few months it seemed to get better and now it's back to crap service. They think because there are only a few choices for service to us people out in the boonies so they can do whatever they want. I got news for them, there's now a such thing as wireless unlimited plans and I'm to the point of going that route. This is ridiculous!

Hi Mark
We released unlimited roughly a month or so ago in select areas. Since we want to allow customers to be grandfathered into their accounts we don't automatically change customers over. You can see if this is an option for you currently at account.viasat.com. If it is not currently available now you should see it eventually once Viasat 2 goes online in a few weeks time. The plan does require our WiFi modem so if you do not have one currently there is a waiting period as we are working through a backlog but if you call us at 855-463-9333 if instructed we can put you on the list.

Mark, be aware that only the gold unlimited plan has HD video!  Silver is video resolution capped to 480p, which defeats the purpose of having unlimited, since video is the major data usage.

Brad, That's all fine and good but tell me how I have used Twenty five gigs of data in two weeks when I only watch videos on you tube averaging maybe ten minutes a video in 240 megs and not full screen. And I know I haven't used anywhere near what I usually do and haven't come close to the limit? I have the 25gb liberty plan with free data between 3 and 6 am. You say if I go over the 25Gb then speeds will slow to between 1 and 5 mbps. I have ran a speed check twice in the last thirty minutes and it was at POINT 007 the first time and POINT 010 the second time. NEVER do I have 1-5 mbps I'm lucky if I get that before I run over. And this is the second time I've upped my data because I was supposedly going over and ALL I WATCH IS SHORT YOUTUBE VIDEOS at LOW RES and NOT FULL SCREEN HD! Do you understand my frustration and why I'm PISSED?!?! It's like you know that most of us have no alternative but satellite internet so you can treat us however you want because we can't go elsewhere. I'm almost to the point of doing without internet.

There are 3 unlimited plans, depending on location.  These are not available to everyone, only on the beams with less congestion.

As has been stated many, many, many times on this forum.  Speeds will increase when VS2 comes online in a matter of weeks. Some beams are congested and during peak times speeds are going to tank.  There is a reason this has happened, but the good news is VS2 is about to help with that.

Are those speeds from your Wi-Fi or are you hard wired?

all my speed test are from wifi. There are times when i get less than 1MB. I know they say upto 25MB but thats not even close. I live out in the country so i cant get high speed like the folks in town. I tried AT&T DSL but that was even worse. I hope they get some new sat soon.

Hi everyone

To answer this question we see a great deal of times, speeds are going to fluctuate as many many many factors can affect your experience. This is why *up to* is posted on our speed plans. So some of the most common times you'll see this is during peak hours. This is typically around 5pm-12am when everyone is on the network and as a result speeds slow. This is not isolated to Satellite internet as the same thing happens on Cable and DSL as well but it's more noticable I think on satellite because we have a set limit on our broadband and we've been hitting that limit on these hours. Some areas where our network is at its busiest cover a lot of customers in a single beam and as a result may see speeds drop quite a bit. Unlike DSL or Cable we can't add more bandwidth unless another satellite is launched...which we did and should see it enter service in a few weeks. Once some of the workload is shifted over we will see improvement of speeds during peak hours across the board. We do try to manage the traffic during these busy times to the best of our abilities but I would recommend if possible to try to reserve your downloads for less busier times to spare the frustration.

In addition, things like Liberty Pass or going past the 150GB point on an unlimited plan immediately puts you on a lower priority on the network traffic so those are the first to see speeds slow. Other factors that can slow you is how many devices are being used on your network, the device itself and sometimes even weather.

As always the best way for us to see if there's an issue with your service is to call us as the issue happens at 855-463-9333. A lot of times if it's peak hour related and an email is sent to our corporate social media team that won't be opened until most likely when it's not peak hours and of course if speed is checked everything appears fine so that's one instance where you're better off giving us a call (or online chat on the contact us page). Keep in mind though that if it is network traffic that's something that a lot can't be done about.

Viasat-2 is going to help us a great deal with this. We will more than double our entire bandwidth so once some of that workload gets shifted everyone should see some improvement.

looking forward to viasat-2.  Another problem I am seeing is weak signal from one room to the next. My Router is upstairs in my computer room but wife and kids are down stairs with much slower speeds than i see next to the router. Today i put a high power repeater next to my router upstairs and now the wife and kids are seeing much faster downloads. Is it possible to buy a router with more transmit power?

I do get real good and I am in the country, I had added a router to my modem and I do seriously think it helps a lot. I put both modem and router middle of my house so the reception is equal/tests everywhere inside my home. I'm happy and hope maybe if you tried a router you too can enjoy faster speeds! Good luck! My tests usually are 40.'s the uploads are usually 5. I blame the weather right now for the lower uploads!
