I have now had Exede for over a month. I switched from Hughes net because I could get double the amount of download allowance and from what I understood Exede was much faster. At the same time I upgraded my operating system.
I am using an iMac with an operating system of 10.10.5 and for some reason all of my data allowance is being used up in the first week. I have been on the phone with exede and they have been NO HELP! I have brought my computer down to Apple Store and had the specialist look at it and we turned everything off that we could and STILL - my data allowance is being all used up!!!
NOW - I have been a Satellite Internet user for over 8 years before I switched to Exede so I know EXACTLY what my boundaries are concerning downloading and surfing. I have NEVER had a problem with going over my usage and I had 1/2 the data allowance than I do now. WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM? Even when I talked with an Exede specialist on “Tier 2” they said they couldn’t help because I am using a MAC!

Hello Joanne, I can certainly understand your frustration not knowing what your data is being used for, there are many reasons customers may experience data issues and we hear them all. Sometimes things are loading in the background (FB video, Windows 8 tiles, etc. etc.) that people are unaware of. Sometimes the router is messing up. People with larger families sometimes don't realize how additional devices and users can add to data consumption (parents often are unaware that their kids are on YouTube all the time, or Skype, or that the PS3 is online, etc.). Sometimes the problem may be on our end, so it's always worth contacting us if you think your data usage isn't adding up properly. I have provided a link to assist how to maximize your data.

Please feel free to send us an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information. We would love to review your account details and check your usage categories so we can figure out where your data is being consumed exactly.

Joann, when I last did an OS update my Mac went on a data binge. My solution was to turn off wifi for a few minutes and then open Mail. In Mail I took all of my Email accounts offline. Then I reconnected to wifi. Through the App Store you can find a free bandwidth monitor that will help you figure out when the wifi is being used and how much. I finally gave up on using Mail because for some reason the install of Mavericks OS X 10.9 caused my Mail to wipe clean and required re downloading every archived email in each account. Ten years of email is a lot of data. Trying to fix this also wiped some of my email from the server.

Also, I suggest you secure your wifi router to stop outsiders from accessing it.. Strong 15 or more characters work.

Hope this helps, Apple didn't help me to figure this out even after multiple Apple Care calls they didn't seem to know that Apple Mail is an issue. I either go on line to the web or use Thunderbird.
