I have the same issue today I have had in the past.  When I checked the other day I had only used 4 gig of my 10 gig plan and I hardly use more than 6 gig each month.  Was doing nothing except watching TV today and just went to log on and it is very slow.  Checked usage and it is all gone.  So I called and they tell me I used 6 gig today between 5:00 am and now which is impossible seeing I haven't been on.  I have been with them for 3 years now and have had this issue before with them and they have terrible customer service.  I guess it is time to shop around again my contract is over.  They told me to call back tomorrow to see when my data was used because they can't be specific today.  Can't tell me how it was used but can sure shut it down fast.  What a joke.  Don't want to buy a gig for $10 and have it disappear in 2 minutes.

I just went through my computer and my cell phones and nothing has been downloaded to a cloud and I can't find anything that shows updates or downloads have been done.  These guys just rip you off and it isn't the first time its happen.  I can even search on the forums that this happens to everyone at some point.  The last time it happened to me they said my dish was out of alignment and it cost me $100 to have them come and align it and the guy that came out told me it wasn't even out, but charged anyway.  They really get you when you don't have any other choice.  I need to look into hughesnet gen 4 reviews.  I was able to get into my email and had my warning email sent at 6:45 am that I was at 70%  then another came at 12:12 saying I  EXCEDED my limit.  Thing is is only I was home 1 computer on the 3 cell phones.  I am so upset right now because I really believe this is their issue and not mine and they don't care.  Is there a way to tell if it was downloads or uploads?

Just got off the phone with customer service and they could only tell me that about 50% of my data use was in the free zone and the rest was during the day.  They could only tell me it was about even for upload and download but no more detail than that.  I will continue to look to see if the error is on my side but I don't believe it is.  The customer rep today was much more helpful than yesterday and she gave me an additional 5 gig to last me for the 21 days before reset.

We had a problem a few years back with Wild Blue when all of our data was gone after returning from a two week vacation with everything shut off completely while we were gone.  We were basically told to go take a flying leap by customer service and that was when we discovered the fixed wireless broadband provider which we had until we moved here and were forced to hook up to satellite again.  So far (knock on wood) we haven't had any data issues like the past and the moderators on this board and friendly and helpful a huge difference from before, but that being said,  I recall someone posting on this board in the past few weeks something about finding a corroded connection on their dish somewhere which may have been the cause of the data issues with them.  I remember that because I wondered if that could have been possibly the problem several years ago.  Just thought it was worth mentioning as something to check as it would not have thought of that on my own.  Hope you get the issue resolved soon.

You mentioned you were just watching TV ... is your TV connected to your home network? Smart TVs especially, and Dish or Direct TV, often try to offload downloads onto your home network. If you watch an on demand show, or watch a you tube video or one of the included "apps" on the menu it could use a huge amount of data in no time flat.
