Access to public NTP servers block

It appears that access to common NTP servers are blocked or blackholed.  I typically use pool.ntp.org and time.nist.gov for maintaining time on my computers and routers, but access to these times out or is unresponsive via my Exede connection.  NTP has never worked for me on Exede.  Is there a particular reason this is being prevented?

Eg from a terminal window:

ntpq -p pool.ntp.org
pool.ntp.org: timed out, nothing received
***Request timed out

ntpq -p time.nist.gov
ntp1.glb.nist.gov: timed out, nothing received
***Request timed out

Hi Joseph, I will have to reach out to our engineering team on this one.  Please send me your contact information to exedelistens@viasat.com and I will see if I can track down and answer for you. Thank you.

Can you please run "ntpdate -q pool.ntp.org" and post the results?

This seems to imply that ntp communications is working; port 123 is not blocked.
I doubt ntpq with a public server will work - it does not work from our corp network either. There is probably some security protection at the server. (I am guessing, I am no expert in this ..)

Please look at your ntp configuration settings and see if they need any tweaking.

I will do some testing with a computer behind an Exede modem on Monday.

Would like to hear from other Exede users whether they have similar issues with ntp or if they have any suggestions.

Joseph - were you able to get ntp running? If not, please post some info on how your are configuring your servers for ntp access.

Hi. Has this been solved? I have a dual interface router with EXEDE satellite on the WAN and AT&T LTE on the backup. Standard NTP queries work fine on AT&T but not on EXEDE.

Please run ntpdate -q pool.ntp.org
and let me know if it works.
If you want me to dig in further, I will need your acct # or modem MAC ID.
Best way to send it is to register on the wildblue/exede forum http://wildblueworld.com/forum and send me (ExedeNeil) a private email there.
