You never will get what you are paying for. Thousands of excede customers are on here complaining about the disappearing data scam that excede has been engaged in for the past 6-12 months. Don't buy into customer service excuses, you are getting ripped off and the only way to stop it is to quit excede. My bill went from $39. to $300 over the course of a few months even tho my activities did not change. I was having to buy extra date more and more often and on multiple occasions I would no sooner order the extra gigs aend they were gone before I could even try to use them. I left this ripoff outfit and couldn't be happier with my new service.

My modem was off (I didnt know it) for almost 10 days in FEB. My data still says I used all 10gbs on March 3rd. So...who used my data? The boogeyman at Exede sucking my wallet. Thats who.

Your modem cannot update the data usage to the Exede servers when the modem is not powered up. What you are seeing for data usage when you check is the last report prior to you turned your modem off. Once you power up your modem, it will update the data meter, normally within 15 minutes after connecting.

I have 2 laptops, 1 PC, 3 smart phones, 3 tablets, 2 TVs, 2 DVD splayers, 2 wifi range extenders and a Directv receiver all connected to Exede and see no unusual or unexplained usage. Maybe someone like a neighbor is tapping in or maybe you have a bot one your computer sending out data.

It seems to be a very common theme with excede users ... i lived on less than 5 GB/month with Hughes Net but cannot seem to stay below 10 GB with excede and my habits have not changed.
its unfortunate that the speed of service is also very very slow - much slower than hugesnet.

You may not have changed your habits but I'll bet the site you visit, the behavior of your operating system and its method of updates and usage by certain Nvidia graphic card drivers sure have.

Many sites now auto-start videos, some further down the page. The newest data killer is the HTML5 "pre-fetch" of video data .... "just in case" you wish to see the video.

You have to run several browser extensions to stop Ads, stop flash, stop auto-start and now stop pre-fetch.

You have to analyze your entire network ...

Get a router that tracks data per day, per device

Install Glasswire on all Windows machines so you can see detailed data on what was consumed by both programs and background processes.

Anything else is guess work.

I suggest you read the following three threads for more detailed information:

https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/excessive-data?utm_source=notification&utm_medium=email...

https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/need-a-mac-expert?utm_source=notification&utm_medium=em...

While the threads are long, I believe you will gain some insight into how to tackle the usage issue.

Are serious, i need to become anIT expert to use this service ... what a colossal crock.
Make it simple .... i didn't need all that IT expertise with Hughes Net.

Michael,

Hughes and ViaSat are of the same basic architecture.

This starts with the undeniable fact that both companies supply a contracted volume of data .. made available to the modems LAN port.

It is your devices connected to your network that consumes that data.

Your ISP is simply NOT your personal IT or computer repair department. It is your responsibility to manage your networks resources.

You don't complain to GM is your now out of warranty vehicle is getting poor mileage. You either tune and/or repair it yourself or you take it to someone that can.

You had to take drivers training before you were legally allowed to drive. You also need to learn how to manage your network and connected devices or outsource the "work".

For your information the Hughesnet user forum is filled with complaints just like yours. I should know, I have been a Hughesnet user for nearly 13 years, and am also a Champ on the Hughes forum with over 8200 posts.

My "specialty" ? Data Loss.

My data was gone every month in 10 days or less whether computer was off or on. Got every excuse under the sun but none applied to my usage Thought I signed with new service only to find out after I paid in advance that internet was still Exede!! Was told data would be truly unlimited like Century Link in 30 days. Not so yet. All I got was a new 2 year contract and dealer that misrepresented the service wont return my calls. Exede is a total ripoff
